Who We Are
We are a diverse church community committed to Loving God, Loving People & Loving Each Other. No one should have to do life alone!
We believe that Jesus’ life and ministry were founded on three big things…Love God (the Great Commandment - Matthew 22:36-40), Love People (the Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20) & Love Each Other (the New Commandment - John 13:34-35). We believe these three things birthed the Jesus Way and the five purposes of the church…
WORSHIP - “Love God with all your heart.”
MINISTRY - “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
MISSION - “Go...make disciples.”
FELLOWSHIP - “Baptize them in the name of . . .”
DISCIPLESHIP - “Teaching them to do . . .”
This is what we see at the end of Acts chapter 2, these new followers of the Jesus Way were doing these things:
“Those who accepted his message were baptized . . . They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer . . . All the believers were together . . . they gave to anyone as he had need . . . Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God . . . And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
We believe that the Church exists to Celebrate God’s Presence through WORSHIP, to Communicate God’s Word through MISSION, to Incorporate God’s Family through FELLOWSHIP, to Educate God’s People through DISCIPLESHIP and to Demonstrate God’s Love through MINISTRY.
"In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; in all things 'love'."
Our Heritage
The Long Beach Church is a non-denominational church with historical roots in a religious movement of the early 19th century known as the Restoration Movement. It is also referred to as the Stone-Campbell Movement, after two of its early leaders. The Restoration Movement birthed church groups such as the Church of Christ, Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and the United Church of Christ, among others. Long Beach Church came out of the Churches of Christ portion of the Restoration Movement.
This movement was motivated by a desire to honor Jesus’s prayer for unity among his followers: “I pray also for those who will believe in me... that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:20- 21). The ideal of the movement was that followers of Jesus would unite around key beliefs taught clearly in Scripture and allow one another diversity of opinion in matters of lesser importance or not as clearly taught in Scripture. By this means, they hoped to restore the unity of the Church. Unfortunately, later generations of the movement were less committed to the early ideals, which resulted in further divisions rather than leading to greater unity.
At the Long Beach Church we are committed to cooperating with other groups of believers to work toward common goals while, at the same time, maintaining our independence as a local non-denominational church. We are an autonomous congregation, meaning that no one outside of our local congregation has authority over our decisions and direction.
"We are Christians only, not the only Christians."
B.L.E.S.S. - 5 Everyday Ways to Love Your Neighbor & Change the World
“…and all the people on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:3
BEGIN WITH PRAYER – It is not only how you discover your mission; it is also how you go about carrying out your mission.
LISTEN – When you listen to someone’s hopes and dreams, as well as the challenges life has brought their way, you offer one of the greatest gifts you can give anyone.
EAT – There may be no activity that moves a relationship from acquaintance to friendship more quickly then when you eat and share a meal together.
SERVE – Simply serving the people and places you come across each day in a way they want and need to be served often speaks louder than anything words could ever say.
STORY – Sharing your story of finding your way back to God may be the very words that someone you love needs to hear in order to find their way back to God.
